GW's daddy visited the troops in Somalia after he lost the election.

GW's Dad is the authentic article. His son doesn't measure up to the
standards he set.

Perhaps. But he is much closer to the mark than Clinton.

Yup, he was a long time guest at Hanoi Hilton, and Dubya couldn't quite seem
to figure out where his National Guard unit was located.

Sunuvagun!

McCain can't remember which political party he belongs to.

There are better ways to show the Habibi that we can kick the
charra out of them, such as by doing it. My people did it in '67
(MY war).

Phil, when did you become an American citizen? Or haven't you?

It's the methods, not the person.

Well, I'm a foreigner in your country, but you can't deny that the economy
boomed under Clinton and is now on it's knees.

I'm not fond of the present government, but mainly for other reasons.
Civil liberties and John Ashcroft, mostly.

All in all, I can't really think of anything GW Bush has done domestically
that is anything to shout about. Tax cuts for the rich. Deficit spending.
I'm really trying to think of anything good (honestly), but nothing comes
to mind.

As for the war, why open that can of worms? Yes, Saddam is/was a very bad
guy. Do I beleive the reasons given for going to war? No. And yes, Blair
went along with it, but I don't like him a lot either.

.... but then I'm an anti-code test liberal, so what did you expect?

However, I actually do think it was a nice gesture for Dubbya to go to
Baghdad for Thanksgiving.

I'm sure this post will draw the usual 'love it or leave it' garbage from
at least someone, but never mind. I can take it.

The "Clinton boom" was a result of the building economy from the previous
administrations. The fall in the economy is a result of various economic
issues that developed in the latter part of the Clinton administration and
only began to be felt after he left office. I'm not blaming anyone mind you
but the economy started tanking right after the change in administration
BEFORE the whammy from 9/11 and the current administration hadn't yet
changed anything. The economy as a whole takes time to react. You have to
examine the several preceding years to find the causes not the current year.

The tax cuts went to the people paying taxes. How can you give cuts to
people who don't pay.

As for the war, why open that can of worms? Yes, Saddam is/was a very bad

Agree 100%. A leader shows his people that they are important. And that
was the purpose of his trip.

Not from me that's for sure. We all have the right to work to make it
better even if we don't agree on what "better" is.

Speak for yourself. Dubya is an idiot. John McCain should be
Commander-in-Chief.

McCain failed. He got captured.

I really question everyone calling that scenario a hero, and
definitely not Commander-in-Chief material.

Getting caught..?!?! perhaps not.

The "Commander-in-Chief" material comes from the strength of
character it took to not fold to interrogator's deamnds, to have not
lost faith with his comrades, and that he came home alive despite the
ordeal.

Yes...John McCain is an American Hero. Several times over...

And MY respect for the current Commander-in-Chief comes from the
fact that, wether you agree with him or not, when he's in the news,
it's about the business of the nation...Not who he's "doing" on the
sly or what nefarious deals his spouse is engaged in.

Had Billary stood up to the first accusations against him
(protesting the Viet Nam war while in England) and said, "Yes, I
protested the war. It was my right to do so as a citizen", even the
most right-wing Hawks would have had to give him credit as being
truthful. He didn't...he tried to lie his way out of it and was
proven to be a liar. Every SUBSEQUENT accusation that erupted also
had the opportunity for him to "stand up" and be counted, but he tried
to lie his way out of those, too.

Our present Commander-in-Chief may not be the smoothest orator or
do everything "right", but I have far greater respect for a man who
can try, fail, and admit to it than one who tries to lie his way out
of his actions.
