Default had a blast on Field Day

I went up and worked with the Fulton County club(K8BXQ) for Field Day.

Man I think I got bit by the DX bug, worked 20 meters all the time I was
operating, until about 4:30 (EDT) AM this morning(Sunday). Worked a few
alaska stations, a few stations in the Virgin Islands, tried to work a
Hawaii station but he was working a huge pileup. But the icing on the
cake was Christian 3D2EA in Fiji, wow that amazed me, Shelby WA8FVT was
on the mic for this contact, but it effected me just the same.

I am forever hooked, and now have even more incentive to upgrade come
hell or high water heheh.

Tis very cool. FD is what really got me started. Sounds like you are in
with a good group that is encourageing you to operate.

Yep, it really was a blast. Excellent wx, good conditions, no major foulups.

Now to recopy the logs and get the final score.

Go for it. Field Day is a blast. You might also enjoy other contests
throughout the year. There are the International DX voice and CW contests
(I got Iceland on the latter one year). I'm not sure of the dates though
but check the ARRL website. The 10 meter contest in December nets a lot of
good DX too.

It was pleasant days and a chilly night for the Marshall County WV ARES
bunch, atop the hill at Grandview Park overlooking the burg of
Moundsville. I'm not sure of the final tally yet but it should be in
the neighborhood of 26 to 27 k points. The CW duo was good for about
950 QSOs. We didn't manage a WAS on CW though--missed Alaska and
Hawaii.

For some reason I had trouble getting heard when responding to CQs.
Might have been
too much QRM. Was running about 50 watts into a multiband vertical.

That will make it more difficult to break through. But part of FD is to
learn how to deal with the QRM, different power settings, different
antennas, etc.

We built a 32 foot 1/4 wave vertical out of swimming pool poles -- with four
32 foot elavated radials -- it was a screamer on the 40 meter band -- SWR
was 1.15 to 1 across the band. Worked the western USA from San Diego area --
no problem.

It also tuned to 15M (3/4 vertical) and swr was 2.5 to 1 which the rig tuner
compensated for. Worked all across country on 15M.
