Mr. Kite is still having a problem in understanding what problems are
caused by synthesizer phase noise. He seems to be stuck in the rut of believing that an attempt is being made to redefine "noise" and he has the idea that we're tying the issue of "phase noise" to sensitivity. Noise floor is typically not an issue at HF where local noise routinely overrides the noise floor of a receiver. Earlier I submitted several urls for Mr. Kite's edification. He might learn something about the issue if he reads page 52 of the .pdf file found at: http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/pdf/020708qex046.pdf A sugar-coated version appears in the article at: http://www.arrl.org/qst/2004/08/Tracy.pdf Yes, Mr. Kite, phase noise was an issue twenty or more years ago. There were frequency synthesized transceivers back then. Dave K8MN |

Some more fun facts: - Ten Tec, maker of arguably the best amateur radio HF equipment ever made, started out in the late 1960s. The company was founded on, and grew on, QRP CW equipment. - Digi-Key, the excellent mail/online electronic parts vendor, got its start in the same time frame. Its name derives from its original purpose - selling digital ICs by mail to hams in small quantities, primarily to build CW keyers. 73 de Jim, N2EY |
