I'm shocked to think that all those JA's were were repeating the word "penis" over and over again on the air. And I always thought they were the most polite amateurs. They are. But the point is you don't know Japanese, yet you feel it's "OK" to say Japanese words in non-Japanese conversation. You and Lennie don't seem to have the same opinions on word useage when non-Lennites are involved in the act. Stebie does a tour on Okinawa and thinks he was "in Japan." I did SEVERAL tours on Okinawa, and yes, since 1972, Okinawa IS a WHOLE part of Greater Japan. I had to stand and salute during evening colors enough to know who's Anthem was playing. Problem is that Okinawans do NOT refer to themselves as "Japanese" in the strictest sense of the word. Never let little details worry lil Stebie. Too bad YOUR frame of reference is fron the early 1950's, Lennie. I was last there in 1990. The Okinawan's DO consider themselves "Japanese" in VERY strict sense of the word. In all regards. Hai, wakarimas... ["yes, we understand" in conversational Japanese] Glad to see you retained something else from your time in Japan other than your ill-conceived embellishing of your own service record, Lennie. A phrase you used often when the JNP's directed you from the benjo ditch back to your barracks, no doubt. Putz. Steve, K4YZ |

The stock microphone that came with the TS-690S is good, or the Heil headset. I leave the antenna outside for radiating the signal. And remember, if it's a JR6, do NOT say "sayonara"...They're "not really Japanese" according to Lennie. Steve, K4YZ Cool. Is Okinawa a JA posession like Guam or Saipan is a W6 posession? |

You ignored the phrase "...according to Lennie". Okinawa is a prefecture of Japan...a "state", just like Hawaii, Rhode Island, or Texas is to us. They are very much a part of Japan, CONTRARY to what Lennie would have other believe. "Sayonara" is completely appropriate. Steve, K4YZ |

And "putz" is not. Absolutely not. Nor would I use it one the air. I had a blast from Okinawa in 81...But the "new" sequential callsign system was still new in the States, and a lot of folks seem to skip by the "KA6" calls...UNTIL, that is, that we got wise and started signing /JR6. Then the pile-ups started! I was KA6CM on Oki. 73 Steve, K4YZ |
