What callsigns are new Amatuer Extra's getting assigned these days in Region
4? Are there any 1x2 or 2x1 callsigns starting with W/N/K left, or is the FCC reverting to AB#CD? |

The last sequentially issued Group A callsign (as of 12:23 CDT 16 Aug, when I post this...) was AI4LN, and that was on 01 August. Are there any 1x2 or 2x1 callsigns starting with W/N/K left, or is the FCC reverting to AB#CD? They haven't recycled any callsigns for sequential use since 1978 when the sequential program began. They do, of course, re-issue calls when they are available, for Vanity issue. 73 Steve, K4YZ |

Just keep your old call and try to see what you can get through the vanity program. Or just keep your old call so everyone knows you. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Phil Howard KA9WGN | http://linuxhomepage.com/ http://ham.org/ | | (first name) at ipal.net | http://phil.ipal.org/ http://ka9wgn.ham.org/ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

There are likely some available through the vanity call sign system however. If you ask for a new sequential Extra call, you will get a 2x2 beginning with A. Dee D. Flint, N8UZE |

They've only got the rest of the AI's, the AJ's, AK's, and AL's to go. It's a good thing a lot of people who upgraded kept their old calls or they would already be out. Would you happen to know how fast their going through the sequential issue? Dee D. Flint, N8UZE |

It has been the pattern that when they run out of the highest block that the license class is eligible for that they just drop down into the next category. Extras would certainly be eligible for 2x2s beginning with W, K, or N. The W 2x2 block is gone for sequential issue but I think there are some still left in the K 2x2 block. I would imagine that they will pick up at whatever point they are in that sequence. Of course there are Ws and Ks available in the vanity program and I know some Extras who opted for those as vanity calls they didn't like the A's or simply because a "cool" call was available that they liked. ![]() Or just keep your old call so everyone knows you. That's what I did. An extra with a "novice" callsign I've heard people say.... Got it in 1976, and I think that it was a recycled call. Someone in upstate NY had it before I got it. |
