There currently are 14 active beacons in the NCDXF/IARU system all on 14.1MHz,
and most have companion beacons on 18.11, 21.15, 24.93. and 28.2MHz. The 15th
station (VR2B) is rumored down due to a lightning strike.

IIRC you can find their schedule at the NCDXF web site.

well then...

would those in the USA like to explain why I heard at least
one W4 blasting out over 14100 during last weekends contest ?

It was my understanding that anyone with intelligence was requested to
steer clear of 14100 in the hope of everyones benefit to observe which
way the propogation is going (including packet radio operators)

with the blatant and largely bull-in-china-shop behaviour of some
cw operators last weekend, i'm surprised that even 14100 was blasted to
bits let alone any other frequency where those with less than 10watts
werent given a chance to get a word in.

I suppose the best answer would come from that W4 you mention.

Duh??????

I posted a quiz a while back avoiding 14.100 MHz
Few knew the answer -- one sed why not -- it is in the CW portion.

I have noted during a CW contest - contesters frequently think the frequency
is clear and jump on it.

In a nut shell -- many newbies and OT's as well -- don't have a clue as to
what the NCDXF/IARU Beacon system is.

FYI: See URL:

CL -- I doubt, therefore I might be !

as suspected.

anything for a few extra points eh ? !!

same goes for the qrp spot frequency.

and the iaru response ?

non-contestors are encouraged to us 10-18-24 during contests !!!

what a load of horse-do-do.

i've suspected for a long time that rf contests were effectively an
"anatomy" measuring contest.

my observations last week of the allegedly more-clued-in cw operator left
me with the definite impression that there is a growing number who couldnt
care less.

IARU PSE NOTE.
ARRL PSE NOTE

i wonder if any of the contest rules actually ban operation on 14100 ?

if yes, which ones...
i think its time for some check-logs to be sent in.
