I never heard of Silver Bell, but it could have been a house brand. I
don't know if Emerson had manufacturing capability at this time, or if they were still buying chassis from International in Ann Arbor. If the latter, International could have made their own version, with a cabinet from a local supplier. All things considered, this seems the most likely explanation. I don't think Ben Abrams would have cut the ties to International before being sure he could go it alone. The Compact model was a runaway success, as it turned out. I think the "portable" features were dropped after Abrams saw how few customers cared. Alan |
