Had you gone to eBay for this radio, you would probably be competing with others bidder that knew what the radio is worth. Even if the seller did not. The done side of the lack of competition is that had you not bought it for $10, it probably would have ended up in a land fill. Jeff You should have talked them down to 7.50 :0 -ex ... ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com ** |

Yet if ebay didn't exist, I wouldn't have even a fraction of my current
collection. I buy Nixie tubes from Russia, audio tubes for guitar amp projects from around the world, and any various components for radio restoration. Salt Lake City is not typically known for its abundance of hamfests and electronic swaps. I am able to do more now with my electronics hobbies than I was ever able to do years before internet access. It's been many years since I lived in the area (Sandy, Riverton, Draper). Do they still have the big swap meet at the Redwood Drive-in? (do they even still have the Redwood Drive-in?) |

I moved to Utah (Pleasant Grove) about 8 years ago. Yes, the Redwood
Drive-in is still there, though I have never attended a show. I don't know if they have a swapfest - I should look into that. I used to do the 40 mile commute from Pleasant Grove to Salt Lake and would pass by the theater regularly. I did a quick search online, and the theater was renovated in 2004. You'd hardly recognize the area if you came back to visit. Draper and Riverton have exploded. Draper homes now extend a good ways up Point of the Mountain, and all of Traverse Ridge is fully developed. (There are also three LDS temples on the south end of the valley to give you an idea of population growth.) I had a good friend, Jim Bailey that lived in Salt Lake and has since retired to Upstate New York. I believe he was a regular participant on the r+p groups. Jim had a very nice collection, and some of my larger radios were bought from him. (There are also three LDS temples on the south end of the valley to give you an idea of population growth.) I know what you mean about the growth. The entire area where I lived in Riverton is gone, replaced with a high-end housing development.. even the elementary school has moved. About the only thing I recognize in town anymore (looking on Google Earth) is what used to be the Peterson's Supermarket. Found this about Redwood Drive-In: Redwood Drive-In: 3688 S. Redwood Road, West Valley City. This popular six-screen theater, known for showing first-run double bills and its huge weekend swap meet, is the only remaining drive-in in the Salt Lake Valley. According to Drive-Ins.com, it opened in 1948 and underwent a complete renovation in 2004. For movie information, call 801-973-7088. Tickets are $7, $1 for kids up to 9. And this: SALT LAKE CITY - - SAT & SUN Redwood Swap Meet. 3688 S. Redwood Road. Exit I-15 on 33rd South. West to Redwood. Redwood Drive in Theater. Hours 8am-4pm. Ample parking. Adm charge ..50. Average attendance of 10,000 for the weekend. Approximately 400 dealers. Antiques, collectibles, crafts, primitives, good country and farm items, new merchandise. Space from $12. per day. Snackbar, restrooms, h/a. c/p Manager, 3688 S. Redwood Rd W. 84119. (801) 973-6060. |
