Robbers await bank employees at workday's start By LINDA MAN The Kansas City Star As two employees prepared to open an Independence bank today, two robbers greeted them in the building lobby, demanding to be let into the bank area. The robbery occurred about 7:20 a.m. at US Bank, 3640 Noland Road. Police said the robbers likely stayed overnight in the building where the bank and other offices share space. Police said the robbers took money from a locked box and cash drawers in the drive-up windows. The robbers, armed with small caliber semi-automatic handguns, forced one employee to give up her car keys. The men sped away in her light blue 1996 Neon with Missouri license plate 058LS6. The robbers wore ski masks, gloves and dark long-sleeved flannel shirts. One carried a hand-held police scanner. One robber is about 5 feet 5 inches tall, and the other is about 5 feet 9 inches tall. The men were described as black and in their mid- to late-20s. No injuries were reported. The bank was last robbed in 1999 when it was called Mercantile Bank, police said. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
