^ there is a ham repeater i would like to hear, but i am stuck ^ in a shallow valley and do not think i can rig an antenna ^ high enough to overcome it. any suggestions? Mount the scanner on a kite and use external speaker wires as the control string. This technique will overcome problems of loss on a long feed line. A balloon will work too. Frank |

Try a beam. If necessary point it at large metal obects and hope for
reflections. Best signal may NOT be on a direct line to the repeater. jw wb9uai |

geez i think i'll need a topo map to see if i can bounce it off the metal
shed that looks like it might line up for bounce. but even if, i should have gotten something, 90% static but more that dead silence. squelch was off, scanner was on -- Tater President of MARS Club www.treece.org/mars.htm KC9ESF NAR #79654 L1 AMA #747769 EAA #703312 remove spam spelled backwards to reply "J999w" wrote in message ... You might try moving the radio or antenna just a foot or two ... might make all
the difference. I have to do that when picking up WTKM 104.9 FM from here ... some 35 miles distant ... moving the radio 6 inches can make or break the signal. jw wb9uai milwaukee |

well, i ran some magnet wire up to the second floor to see if there was any
improvement. stilll nothing but background noise. upgrading tho to a pro-91, then i'll just drive to the top og the hill -- Tater President of MARS Club www.treece.org/mars.htm KC9ESF NAR #79654 L1 AMA #747769 EAA #703312 remove spam spelled backwards to reply "J999w" wrote in message ...
