I have a Bearcat 600XLT that has no display. The 13.8v power adapter is new.
I hear a hum from the speaker when it is powered on, but no backlight or
display. I also feel heat coming from the voltage regulator (marked 7808),
Any ideas? I have no schematics, so if you can point me to a likely
component it would be much appreciated. I had assumed a bad power diode, but
can't identify it.

well a 7808 should get (warm) hot.
it's the main volt reg.
left leg is volts in(13.8) , middle leg is ground, right leg is 8 volts out.
check it with a meter,

Thanks for the help Mike. I am getting 12.6v out of the left leg and .7v
(seven tenths volts) out of the right leg. Is it just a bad reg or something
after it maybe? Sorry if this is a repeat post, my news server is acting up.
