Thanks for filling us in on what happened to the Motorola trunking systems back in '97. There was a small 800 Mhz trunking system around southern, NH with a security company and taxi company on it. The talk groups were so lightly used and at different times of the day, following conversations with a conventional 800 MHz radio was easy. This 800 MHZ trunking system went dark, about 1990. It took several years to find the taxi co. again. So when they appeared with UHF antennas, the ones with a loading coil in the middle, mounted on the taxi cabs. A search of the taxi allocation at 452 MHz showed there repeaterized operation. This repeater is shared with a plumbing operation., and is licensed to a dealer in the next town over. Also they appear to be using a non standard squelch tone. Never did find where the security outfit went! (5-19-97) AS OF FEBUARY OF 1997 NEXTEL ANNOUNCED THAT THE DAYS OF ITS ANALOG TOWERS WERE NUMBERED, IN OTHER WORDS NEXTEL WANTS THE FREQUENCYS THAT THEESE ANALOG TOWERS USE AND RE USE THEM FOR THE NEW DIGITAL TOWERS THAT THEY WANT TO MOVE TO. THE MOTOROLA SYSTEMS WERE DESIGNED TO OPPERATE ON ANY NUMBER OF CHANNELS FROM 5 TO 20 SO NEXTEL WILL START REDUCING AVALABLE VOICE CHANNELS ON EACH TOWER AS NUMBWER OF USERS DECREASE ON THE TOWER, NEXTEL IS NOT ALLOWING ANY NEW CUSTOMERS ON THE SYSTEMS. AS OF FEBUARY 1997 WE HAVE HEARD RUMORS THAT THEY WILL SHUT DOWN MOST OF THE TOWERS IN 1 YEAR OR LESS BUT I HAVE NOT HAD ANY CONFIRMATION OF AN EXACT DATE BUT I CAN SAY THAT SYSTEM 1622 IS STILL HEAVILY LOADED SO I KNOW THAT NEXTEL IS MAKING A GOOD PROFIT FROM 1622. NEXTEL SAYS IT WILL BE OFFERING USERS INCENTIVES TO TRADE IN THEIR ANALOG EQUPMENT FOR A GOOD DEAL ON THE NEW DIGITAL. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY ADVERTISMENTS YET IN ANY OF MY BILLS YET. IT WILL BE A SAD DAY WHEN THEESE SYSTEMS GET SHUT DOWN....EACH ONE IS LIKE A FAMILY EACH WITH ITS OWN UNIQUE PERSONALITY,CHANNELS,USERS,SYSTEM ID. MOST OF THEESE SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN IN OPPERATION FROM AROUND 1984. IF YOU LOOK AT THE CONTROL CHANNEL ORDER ON MOST OF THEM, THE LAST 4 DIGITS OF FREQUENCY ARE THE SAME THEESE CHANNELS WERE PICKED WHEN THE 800 MHZ BAND WAS SO UN CROWDED THAT THEY HAD THAT CAPABILITY. I HAVE ALSO SEEN WHERE A COMPANY HAD BEEN A FAIRLY ORIGIONAL USER OF THE SYSTEMS IN AN AREA YEARS BACK AND HAD MULTIPLE SYSTEMS WITH THE SAME FLEET NUMBER ON EACH SYSTEM,IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT THE FLEETS WERE ASSIGNED WHEN ALL THE SYSTEMS WERE NEW IN AN AREA. NOW IF A PERSON WERE TO WANT MULTIPLE SYSTEMS TNEY MAY GET AN ASSORTMENT OF FLEETS AMONG ALL THE SYSTEMS THEY WANT..EXAMPLE FLEETS 101,200,30D,177,404.... ALL DIFERENT. BE SMART DONT KEY UP AND SAY ANYTHING! 2.MOTOROLA,WHEN THE FLEET WAS REASSIGNED MAKES ALL RADIOS PROGRAMED FOR THAT FLEET BEFORE IT WAS REASSIGNED LIST ON THIER COMPUTERS WITH DUMMY FLEET INFO SUCH AS SYSTEM 4F3A FLEET FFF SO, IF YOU EVER LOOK UP A SERIAL AND IT COMES UP WITH DUMMY SYSTEM INFO (THE MOTOROLA PERSON SHOULD SAY THAT IT IS A DUMMY SYSTEM) THAT MEANS THAT RADIO PROBALLY IS LISTENING TO A NEW COMPANY, (READ THE RADIO TO FIND OUT THE ACTUAL FLEET AND SYSTEM INFO, OR ON TRAXARS AND MOSTARS ORIGINAL PROGRAMING FROM THE FACTORY IS ON A LABEL WITHIN THE RADIO COVER). I THINK THAT MOTOROLA WILL DELETE FLEET NAME PRIOR TO REASSIGNMENT SOME FLEETS COME UP AS DELETEED OR NOTHING, CHECK ON THEM OCASIONALLY THERE MAY BE A COMPANY ON THEM.
