Concerning the talkgroup issue on the BC296 and BC796D, the official
response
from Uniden is below.

BC296D/BC796D Talk Group ID
Just sent from Uniden HQ:

On Friday, December 12, users around Hennepin County, MN started
reporting
that their BC296D and BC796D scanners were having problems decoding
talk group
ID's greater than 10000 (Hennepin County Sheriff's Department). These
reports
were received by Uniden America Friday afternoon, and it was verified
that the
errant behavior was not likely to be caused by interference (multiple
units
exhibited the same problem at multiple locations, but decoded other
talk groups
OK at the same locations).

This information was immediately forwarded to Uniden Engineering, who
worked
through the weekend to validate, isolate, and prepare a possible
solution. It
was determined that any Talk Group ID greater than 4096 on APCO 25
systems
will not track properly. It appears that this condition only exists
today on the
Minnesota system, and that the issue can be corrected with an updated
BCi96D
Digital Card. Field testing of modified units began Tuesday morning,
and
initial field testing on the Minnesota system indicates that the
problem has been
corrected. Additional test units and locations are being added on
Thursday to
provide a greater margin of safety to ensure that are were no
unexpected
side-effects from the fix.

Uniden expects to be able to issue instructions for the fix within 10
days.
Uniden customer support has no information in addition to the above.
No
additional test units or modified digital cards are available. Once
the logistics for
updating the cards has been determined, this information will be
published on
Uniden's product support web site
