Default Pro-95

My brother and I both bought a Pro-95 for ourselves for Christmas. Man,
these things work great. EXCELLENT receive. We're very impressed. We've
owned scanners for many years. These have done very well thus far. We're
getting signals in some areas that we couldn't receive in before with other
portable scanners using RD antennas. Well worth the cost in our books. Now
to finish filling in the rest of the channels. We're only up to 200. I'm
sure we'll find something.

That's great to hear, as I'm getting one of these in a couple of days! Are
you guys using just the "stock" antennas, or are you using something else?

Stock rubber duck antenna. We've owned many scanners each over the years -
base/mobile/portable, so we've seen some good performance here. I did ask of
others opinions before buying... I had no bad ones. So, I told my brother
the results of my question. We got them, programmed them and even in
otherwise dead areas, they've picked up well. So, as I said, we are
impressed. I'm sure you'll like or out right love yours. Our biggest
problem is filling in the other 700 or so channels. I'm sure we will over
time. If they pick up so well with a RD, I can imagine what a better antenna
would do. G.W. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL.

No kidding... well, glad to hear that you have had such good experiences
with your Pro-95. I can't wait to get started learning the ins and outs of
mine! I may eventually replace the stock RD with another antenna, but then
again I like to putz with antennas and wires.

Then you haven't tried to receive any of the lower frequencies. I have not
yet been able to receive any 11 or 6 meter transmissions from a 5 Watt
transmitter unless it is within about 100 feet away. And that is with an
external antenna.

WRONG! WE have tried 11 meters, not that we want to listen to it, but it
worked well. Heard some truckers off the interstate about 5 miles away (the
interstate from our location). As to 6 meters, now that I can't defend as to
"off air" signals... to my knowledge, there isn't much 6 meter activity
here. I've been in ham for a long time and I've heard only a hand full speak
of any activity. Matter of fact, a friend of mine bought an H.F. rig with 6
meters in it, to try it. IT IS DEAD! So, yes, I'd say the scanner is working
quite well as it comes out of the box with the rubber ducky alone. Upon
reading your complaint, before finishing this reply, I just tried 6 and 10
meters along with channel 19 - CB on my Motorola Service Monitor. The
receiver opened up below the listed values. The book says .3uV, I got on the
order of .222 - .260 uV. And with what I've heard off air as stated above
given my area, I'd say these units are working well. There are receivers out
there with ,5uV or a bit more doing daily commercial work. The units are
working well. Given how well these units are working with the rubber duck, I
look forward to trying it on a out door antenna. My next trip to my
repeater, I'm going to use an antenna off the tower for a few to check it
out. Ought to be interesting. I've had scanners and other radios here that
sucked when it came to receive or transmit in my area. People pull up in
front of my home/shop and the receivers die. Power lines, numerous homes
shielding the signals with aluminum siding, and so on. I've been in a
particular building up the street that due to it's construction, it sucked
up signals. These units pulled the signals right out of the air. So, I HAVE
tested them in some known dead areas as well as on the Service Monitor. I'm
quite pleased with the results and stand by my claim. Again, my biggest
problem, filling up all 1000 channels. I'll find something.

Try it with search bank SR1. I'm not able to receive ANY CB transmission, not
even a few feet away, with the search bank. And regarding six meters, I have
one receiver that receives a signal at S9 +40dB while the Radio Shack
receiver with a 6m antenna receives nothing at all.

You've pushed the 1000 channels three times and we're coming up on the after
Christmas sales. Do you work for Radio Shack?

You are reaching aren't you? NO I'm not employed by Radio Shack. LOOK AT THE
NAME...I'm self employed. The ENT is short for Enterprises. The first 3
letters are the initials of my company name. I got the scanner to use in my
Public Safety work which I do as a volunteer. I've checked the reception as
stated. I find no problems here. I can see I'm not going to persuade you
otherwise. End of discussion on my end. If you're not satisfied, take it
back, that is all I can tell you.

You have a problem with your scanner. Mine has no problems receiving either
band. In addition it works great on the 72 MHz band when programmed with the
software available on the web. I use mine when traveling to monitor CB and
at the flying field to monitor for activity on the R/C channels and
interference. A six meter repeater over in Georgia (52 miles away comes in
q-5 )
