Default RF-Hacker fun with the drive-thru window

The only way to safely enter traffic on todays busy 4 lane streets is to do
exactly what you did, it's very common. Barney must have been trying to fill a
quota. Good luck.

The other day I received a "careless driving" citation from an officer that
I pass every morning at around 5:10 AM. As I exited a place where I stop to
get coffee, I used a left turn only lane to accelerate prior to entering
the driving lane. I was cited for "driving in a center turning lane", which
came shortly after the left turn only lane.

I always carry my Yaesu VX-5R and listen to the Pittsburgh Police as I head
to work. (It wasn't the Pittsburgh Police that pulled me over). Anyway, had
I not shut the radio off prior to the officer coming to my window, I'd
probably be in jail now as a terrorist. I don't believe that Pennsylvania
or local ordinances forbid me to carry a scanner, and I am a licensed HAM,
so I am authorized to carry the Transceiver. Supposedly the FCC permits
Amateurs to carry radio transceivers that "are incidentally capable of
receiving" public service broadcasts.

Try to explain that to the police.

It's odd how often the borough officers find it necessary to "pull their
guns", especially contrasted to the Pittsburgh Police, where I believe that
they are much more reluctant to use their weapons. (I believe that it's
called discipline). The officer in my case didn't have his gun drawn, but I
did witness another borough incident where 2 cops had a car pulled over.
The car had 5 geriatric women in it. One officer positioned himself at the
rear of the car, with his hand on his gun. I guess traffic stops of old
ladies going to bingo are much more dangerous than I believed.

Imagine what they would do to what they believed was an unauthorized
monitor of police communications.
