I have a Uniden bct-8 and have my local agencies all programed in. I hear
everything except when they go to a private call. Are you able to monitor private calls? Local agencies are using Motorola type 2 systems, and I have all the freqs programmed. Any help will be greatly appriciated. |

Depends. My local PD has Nextel phones, and when they say "go to
private/two way" they mean the Nextels. LJD "LAWMAN267" wrote in message ... I have a Uniden bct-8 and have my local agencies all programed in. It may mean turning off the repeater, so the dispacher hears the
mobile on the input frequency but the mobile is not rebroadcast on the repeater output frequency. That's what it meant in the Alexandria, Virginia, Fire Department in the 70's....... They may be using the Motorola trunkig feature known as " i-Call" put your Bct-8
into TRUNK SEARCH mode when they say "private cal" and look for new and previously unknown talk groups with chit chat traffic. An i-Call takes two (2) talk groups and often you will only hear one side of the conversation. Also some systems have telephone patch capabilities. Again when you here them say private call PUNCH TRUNK and switch to conventional mode and scan the system's frequencies to see if you get a telephone inter link. If they run phone patches this should last several minutes and will stand out on the system. Is there any mention of i-Calls or phone patch frequencies in descriptions of your system? The i-call is active on the Nashua, NH Motorola mixed 3600 baud 800 MHz trunking system with both analog and digital voice traffic. And the i-Cll comes in great using a BC 250D with BCi25D digital card .I hear what appears to be i-Calls with the PRO-90 when in TRUNK SEARCH again just one sided conversations, this may be due tot he DELAY being on! Using a NEXTEL is defiantly another possibility, around New England when folks want to transition to NEXTEL they will say sot or ask if one has there CELL PHONE with them, to give or take a call from the base or another moble unit !
