Default Radio shack has gotten away from aggressively marketing scanner radio's

Hello friends
I am wondering why Radio shack has gotten away from aggressively
marketing scanner radio's? There was a time that i could walk into any
radio shack. And they had every model that they carried at the time up
and running and took the time to show you how they worked.. I don't know
about your Radio shacks. But the ones around here don't even have them
on display! They are in their boxes behind the counter. How are you
going to sell a scanner in a box behind a counter? Our community could
have scanners flying off the shelves in the days leading up to the "G8"
summit. Especially with the assistant county police chief in a public
meeting related to the summit urging people to buy a scanner so they'd
know what was really going on around town in the weeks leading up to and
during the summit. I encourage you to point your browsers to

http://members.tripod.com/scanglynncounty

and tune into my live scanner feed. It will not be up 24/7 as I only
have one trunk tracker. However it is up and running at the moment and
will be during the evening and early morning hours. I usually take it
off the air at or around 11:00 but only for a short period of time. I'd
love to hear from everyone . Please be sure to leave a note in my
guestbook! Steve

some of the Radio Shacks around here don't even have them at all!!!!

and the one that does have some only had one model they carried which was a
RACE scanner.

Some lady came in looking for a scanner to hear the police, fire, and medical
services on, and the clerk tried to sell her a RACE scanner as one.

Luckily for her, she didn't fall for it.

The radio shacks around here used to carry them years ago, but recently none
around here do that I know of except one, which carries only a RACE scanner
model.

No problems around here. They NEVER aggressively marketed them here either.
They currently have at least 4 models on display... If you want to see one
work, them are more than happy to hook it up for you. No idea where you
live, but there is only one store in my local area, and it is a pretty small
one compared to the ones I've seen in larger cities/areas... Funny that
they would take the time to so something that a larger store does not.

The race scanner works fine for listening to all you have mentioned, as
long as the system is not trunked.

Some lady came in looking for a scanner to hear the police, fire, and
medical services on, and the clerk tried to sell her a RACE scanner as
one.

Luckily for her, she didn't fall for it.

Here in Calgary Alberta Canada, finding a scanner at Radio Shack is
impossible, the only one they carry is the Uniden Trunk Tracker hand
held, and it must be specially ordered. Radio Shack, in Canada, many
years ago, had all kinds, and were quite knowlagable about them, now
they just give a dumb look.
