I'm thinking about replacing my BC780xlt this summer. I got it shortly
after they were released. Sadly, it's got a few bumps and bruises from falling off a shelf a couple of times. (oops!) Anyway, I'm starting to look at new units. I can't say that I've really kept up on advancements in the scanner world for the last couple of years. Right now I'm kind of looking at either the 785D or the 250D. I don't really need the digital capability at the moment, but I suppose I might in the future. I don't really want to spend the money for Unidens 796 or 296 models. Any recommendations? |

I would keep the 780 until you are in need of a digital radio. Chances are that there will be newer digital models out by the time you need one. What you dont want to do is replace the 780 with a 785. The 780 is the better of the two. WHOAH! Just looked at the press release for the 246. Now *that* would be a nice little toy. Somehow, I fear it'll be pricey though. Sounds like they're finally getting it right for the memory banks though! |

Do you need Mil. Air? The info that I saw on the 246, it will not receive
Mil. Air. You might just set down and write out what you need in a scanner, like freq. range and features. After you have all your thoughts on paper, just check out different scanners what they have to offer. Is your BC780 working ok after the bumps and bruises? If your BC780 is not working ok, might just send it in to get fix. The BC780 is a good scanner, but now my Sheriff Office and Highway patrol has gone digital, so now I need a digital scanner. In article ,
says... Somehow, I fear it'll be pricey though. From what I hear it will be a little more then the BC245. My guess is going to be in the $225-$250 range. -- ----------- Dwayne http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BC895/ The up and coming BC246T (Looks VERY Promising) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Uniden_BC246T http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ScanFindlay/ |

I did have some of the freqs programmed into my bc780 shortly after 9/11 when they were flying CAP over Chicago. I quickly took it out though, because out here in the boonies, I couldn't hear anything. Is your BC780 working ok after the bumps and bruises? For the time being it's working ok. The volume/squelch knob is loose, though (ouch!) I fear that it might be getting worse -- but it could just be in my head. |
