Yep;
When I saw the locations of the sites and did the simple math it was obvious to me the engineers of that system did not have a clue as to intersymbol interference on a simulcast system. They had no business putting that system in. And because the County used a system integrator as opposed to hiring GE-Ericsson up front, GE-Ericsson had no contractual responsibility. They got their money and tough luck to everyone else. The County was anxious to get the system integrator off the job so that GE/Ericsson (now M/A-COM) would fix the system. County accepted a couple million dollar settlement from the integrator, they left town and guess what? Now Ericsson wanted to replace a big portion control subsystem of the just installed system at megabucks without providing any solution to the simulcast coverage issues. All that being said, the system should work ok in many areas, it did 8 years ago anyway! So I wonder about your scanner programming. You might try programming an EDACS system of another smaller locality into the scanner to make sure it and your methods are working. Sometimes fleet coding can get tricky. I do wonder if over the last few years the County sprung for the controller upgrade that does scramble the control channel data (to prevent eavesdropping) but I doubt it. Joe |
