Can anyone tell me what type of trunked system a "GE" system is? Motorola?
EDACS? Thanks... Randy. |

I heard the long story once about who developed what, and then who bought whom, and all that. As I recall, the net result is that GE was involved in EDACS. -- Gerry Wheeler Naples, FL |

Thanks Gerry,
The learning curve with my "new to me" PRO 95 is pretty steep.... having a hard time with picking up the trunking end of things. I keep getting the squacking...and very infrequently...voice! I really wish I could find an extensive trunking tutorial... Randy. You need to set the bank and the channels to ED
AND EDACS channels must be loaded in the proper order, starting with the bank "01" channel, "00" must be locked out "WTP07" wrote in message . .. If you tell us what department you're trying to monitor and what you know about their freqs etc., maybe someone can help with scanner setup. As I write this my PRO-95 is simultaneously scanning EDACS and Motorola trunked systems, as well as multiple conventional channels. The radio is competent, but its manual is poorly organized. That reminds me, I should finish the critique of the PRO-95 that I started a couple months ago. Try putting stuff like "trunking scanner", "trunked radio", etc. into a search engine. It should come up with some useful pages. -- Paul Hirose To reply by email delete INVALID from address. |

1) I have 2 "sets" of freq's....140ish Mhz and 800ish Mhz. Does this seem right? (these are for the London ONT cops) The official site says they're using a "3 site, 20 channel, 800 megahertz trunking system", so I'd recommend the 800 MHz freqs. http://police.city.london.on.ca/Tech...ioOverview.htm 3) The manual states that with EDACS systems, the channels have to be in LCN (logical channel number) order. Is this simply in order by frequency # or is there another way to determine the LCN? The LCNs aren't necessarily arranged in order of frequency. If you don't know the LCN assignments it's possible to determine them by trial and error. 2) I seem to have 2 800 Mhz control channels (CTL-01 and CTL-02 on the display) If a control channel is active, the CTL-01 or CTL-02 should be intermittently replaced by talkgroup numbers when users are talking on the system. Do you see that? The other freqs -- do they sound like they're trunked and part of the same system? Park the scanner on each one for a while and listen. Are you hearing voice? The web site says the system was designed to allow digital encrypted voice. The PRO-95 can't handle digital voice, even when sent "in the clear". -- Paul Hirose To reply by email delete INVALID from address. |
