The big difference between the 5 and 6 is the CPU.
The 2006 uses a faster CPU for quicker scan times 26cps vs. 13cps, if I recall correctly. Aside from an extra bilateral switch in the 2006's squelch circuit, both are identical. Later versions of the 2006 use a light switch instead of a dimmer to conserve the EL panel's life. |

Both my 2005s scan at over 20cps - but I did cut the diode which slows down the scan speed. Dave |

In My Opinion Pro 2006 Is Better, both are easy to modify but the 2006 scans
a little faster..... "Daphne + Dave" wrote in message news:c9U9d.52002$a41.51639@pd7tw2no... a. Pro's & Con's of each? b. What's the major differance? c. Best? thanks |

It was a long time ago so I had to look it up and found I did not cut a
diode but installed one. However the cellular enable required cutting a diode so: I removed D-502 to enable cellular, and used it as D-501 to increase scan speed. Don't cut or remove D-503 since that will decrease the scan speed. Dave Daphne + Dave wrote: what diode? "Dave Holford" wrote in message ... Not all 2006 are 2006 models, many early ones had left over 2005 parts
in them, I think Bill tells in one of his books how to tell. We also found out when installing the CE/HB-232 interface and Pro-Turbo software that some 2006 scanners would not work properly with the 2006 settings file, but would perform perfectly with the 2005 settings file, turns out that all the ones that needed 2005 settings files where the early 2006's with 2005 parts in them.
