I work for Los Angeles County DPW Road Dept. for 23 years. Would you
believe they went to this system about ten years ago now. The old radio
system was VHF 151.040. When they went to the new one we took all the
trucks
to Palmdale, They took out the old radios and put in the new. They tested
and worked OK in palmdale. But guess what? You get out of town into work
areas they would not work. So the first time we had a big rain and snow
storm we could not use the radios. And have people stranded way out in the
middle of no where and can't get help. And in places where the old radios
would have worked. This new GE. system would not work in places where the
old VHS radios worked with no problem. So here we go back with all the
trucks that were used for storms, Trucks with rock and snow blades and
sanders for ice. to have the old radios put back in them. And are being
used today because the new system still does not work any better then when
it was put into service about ten years a go. You could bet if this system
was used for police
or fire it would have worked before it was but into service.
And just think we had the privilege of paying six million $$ for it.

But if you can think of anything I am doing wrong please let me know.
