You know what burns my butt more than anything. Los Angeles County knows
this. La County Public Works has radio technicians that work for them. and
told La County not to use this system. But they do it any way, And just as
they were told it does not work. They just don't seem to care about it. My
guess is someone got some big kick back in his pocket. This six million $
faulty system puts us and the public in danger when we can't get help when
needed. And we do work 24 hrs. a day when there is a storm going on .
There has been accidents with people are hurt and we can't get help.
It's Typical of there arrogant attitude not to lesson to people that know
what is best, Like the radio technicians.
And guess what? You get to pay for it.

Want to look like a hero? Or make money with your office's suggestion
program? Tell them that next time they should award a performance
contract. That way, if this happens again, GE (or whoever the
contractor will be) will have to eat the additional equipment needed
to make the system perform according to the contract they accepted.

And they should learn to find resources in their own offices (like ham
radio operators) who could have told them that an 800 MHz system will
have shorter range than a 150 MHz system, and even shorter range in
rain and snow, so it would need - at the very least - a lot of remote
receiver sites and higher power transmitters.

Some contract officers still need to learn how to do their jobs
properly.
