they are orientated horizontal if the station is transmitting horizontal
and most mobiles are verticaly polarised and so should your antenna be for
mobiles for your scanner

If a yagi should be set up for vertical polorization to capture the best
signal, why are TV yagis set up for horizontal polarization? Shouldn't it
be the same for both signals? Just wondering...
