Default Are there ANY scanners that have a remote face option for vehicle installation?

Just curious as I am still thinking about buying a scanner to install
in my jeep and a wired remote scanner face (that could be mounted on
the dash) would be perfect so I could.... 1. mount the scanner body in
an extremely secure area in my vehicle to prevent theft & 2. since it
is illegal to have a scanner in a vehicle here.... a wired faceplate
would make hiding it that much easier.

Just curious if there is anything like that out there in the
marketplace? I have looked & so far have seen nothing.

Scanner Master has a remote head kit for the BC780, and is reportedly
working on something similar for the BC785/796. In addition, they have
a remote working around a Pocket PC for the 785/796. Both are quite
pricey. There's nothing off the shelf that has a remote scanner face on
the market now.
In most states, hams are exempted from many scanner laws; go get a
Tech license, and you wouldn't have to worry about some stupid law.
It's not that hard; a little study and you'd have it....73s Mike

Mike, is there a list somewhere on the net that lists all the current laws
for each state? I found one a year or so ago, but it was quite out of date.

Thanks

Yep, this is the one that most people start off with...

To follow up, check with the Radio Reference forum for your state, as
well as some local Yahoo egroups. In fact, if you simply take and pass
the Tech ham exam, most scanner laws won't apply to you....'nuff said!

HOLY @#$%^ !!!! 370 bucks for the kit? Jeezalou that IS pricey.
Christ.... for THAT kind of money I could buy a Tuffy brand locking
console (with seperate locking radio area) & mount a scanner in there.
