Default Florida Mil Ranges busy

05-01-21

At 11:02am EST (1602z), MacDill KC-135R "Bolt 52" was refueling the
Whiteman AFB A-10s (CHISELs) working at Avon Park Bombing Range. CHISEL 21 and
CHISEL 31 were the flights working the range. Refueling freq was 238.9. The
guys in KC-135 BOLT 52 were very chatty today. They had been taking pics of the
A-10s all morning during refuelings. They asked if the CHISELs would drop
flares so they could get some spectacular photos. The Missouri guys are
usually playful, and have been known to "accidentally" drop flares, usually
when departing a TDY location, for the enjoyment of the base locals. But today,
the CHISELs said they could not drop the flares.
BOLT 52 said that after today's AARs of the CHISELs, they would be going
to Robins AFB for some pattern work.
Other acft were working much further south, in the Tarpon Range, near Key
West. RedDog 51 was up on 344.2 with Bandsaw Kilo (AWACS) explaining that he
would be escorting RedDog 52 who had a right engine problem. Bandsaw Kilo was
also up with acft on 250.6.
In the afternoon, KC-135 BOLT 51 refueled MAKO and SHARK flights. The
SHARK 21 flight consisted of tails 86-319 (SHARK 21) and 86-266 (SHARK 22).
AWACS Bandsaw Lima also was heard in comms with OakySam and was working
the offshore area to the north of my location.
Even snagged comms from a Whiteman AFB B-2A bomber when he was talking
with MacDill AFB Metro about weather in Nebraska.
