i have an old uniden bearcat scanner with 50 channels and i have a hard
time keeping up with what i have (i have to write it all down on a piece of paper) a 1000 channel model would drive me nutz i think. what do ppl do with all of them? is there some ulterior (wink-wink, nudge-nudge...) purpose to it all such as entering all the new cordless phone freqs or something along that line? |

Don't know about you but 1,000 channels is easy to fill. You must either be lacking imagination, interest, live out in the sticks or all 3. First couple are devoted to police, local, state, trunked ect. No, not every single one is used. Room for expansion. Then theres a bank with fire/EMS. That way if a fire truck zooms by, I don't have to sift through all the police channels to hear its transmissions. I have a bank dedicated to federal freqs, though in the clear analog fed transmissions have dropped considerably over the years. I have a bank with misc crap, tv stations, news feeds fm radio ect. I have a couple banks devoted to short wave. Then I have 1 bank dedicated to my local airport, Detroit Metro in my case. Then theres a couple banks devoted to my local air force base, air show freqs Blue Angels T-Birds ect. And there you have it. I'd rather have 2,000, but 1,000 would do. I would rather see banks of 50 instead of 100 to make things more organized and managable. I don't know what the fixation on 100 is about. |

Man your missing a lot of very interesting comms with just 50 channels. I have over 10,000 channels avilable to me in all my scanners and I still could use a couple more scanner. And not ONE channel for Police/Fire stuff. See the my setup at http://www.MilAirComms.com/shack.html George - Daytona Beach, FL http://www.MilAirComms.com |

Yup, I live within 60 miles of San Diego and 130 miles of LA and I gotta
tell you I too have no problem loading up 1K channels with pertinent frequencies, even way up here in the mountains.... cop welfare wrote: i have an old uniden bearcat scanner with 50 channels and i have a hard time keeping up with what i have (i have to write it all down on a piece of paper) a 1000 channel model would drive me nutz i think. what do ppl do with all of them? is there some ulterior (wink-wink, nudge-nudge...) purpose to it all such as entering all the new cordless phone freqs or something along that line? -- MZ |

A 1000 channel scanner would have alphanumeric's for each channel. what do ppl do with all of them? We put in al the local frequencies. is there some ulterior (wink-wink, nudge-nudge...) purpose to it all such as entering all the new cordless phone freqs or something along that line? Nope. Just all the local channels. I don't live in a large city, I'm between San Jose and San Francisco, but I could easily fill 1000 channels. -- To reply, remove TheObvious from my e-mail address. |

Put different kinds of things in each of the banks. My old AR1500 has 10 banks of 100 frequencies each. An example. In the last few days, Melbourne (Aus) has hosted a Formula 1 grand prix: I had a bank of about 90 possible driver/team frequencies. Another had a smaller set of known confirmed frequencies. Another had media frequencies. Another had the local V8 supercar driver frequencies. Another had track (eg race control / cranes /trucks) frequencies. Another had air frequencies (eg the aerobatic Roulettes) Another had a single frequency for the local TV Another had a single frequency for a driver that I wanted to keep an eye on, but interference kept me from putting it in with the main bunch. You get the idea. With the sets separated in this way, its a single button push to change the type of thing I'm listening to at any given moment. If they were just in 1 huge pool of 1000, then it'd be useless, but they arent isnt, so it isnt. ![]() |
