Why does my police scanner pick up this FM broadcast station on WFM? It does
not pick up any other broadcast stations. Fred:
Damn man it's because you are probably too close to the tower... Let's see, 102.9 fm. Twice the frequency is 205.8, three times 308.7, none of which click at the moment. What kind of scanner do you have, what are the intermediate frequencies on the scanner, and what frequency do you receive it on? Probably getting it on 102.9+ the high intermediate. If the high intermediate were 45Mhz, you would probably hear it around 147.9, not all that far off some interesting areas... OK, I'll bite, where is River Center Blvd or Memorial Drive in Centralia? (come on, there can't be an actual boulevard in Centralia..., and the only Memorial should have been near a cemetery, which doesn't come to mind right now) For reference, I was born in Chehalis quite a while ago.. How far are you from the tower? Live on the east side of town by any chance? (I used to live at the end of East Main St, and recall a nice hill there, so I'd guess there is a tower on the top of that hill because it is about 400 feet above average terrain, and Centralia/Chehalis is pretty much flat if you aren't up in the hills east of town.... On second thought, (and I know it's been a really long time since I've been there,) but any station that claims coverage of Chehalis, Centralia and Olympia must be somewhere north of town... It wouldn't be out towards Tenino would it? Country music station, huh? Is the JT (Junction Tavern) still in operation? It was at the corner of the old junction of the old road and the one that went past the "training school" on the way to Oakville... It was the first 3-way intersection (about a mile or so) south of the road to Tenino if I recall correctly... the old road roughly parallels Interstate 5. I'm sure the road numbers will come to me in the middle of the night... The JT was one of many taverns where I participated in the rental of innumerable pitchers of beer (Occasionally Oly, but usually Brew 66, which only a western Washington drinker would know anything about...) If you've ever consumed much of either, you know you don't buy beer, you just rent it on it's way to the ocean by way of the nearest urinal. Ok, I got it now, the reason you're hearing it is because it's penance for living in (or near) Centralia (as if living there wasn't penance enough). Fortunately I escaped from there around 1962 for other places in western washington and about the mainland US, and finally landed here in Hawaii after 20+ years of servitude in California.... It was a long strange trip but I'm finally someplace I feel I belong. Is Centralia still known locally as "retirement city"? Good Luck! -_Rick wrote: Why does my police scanner pick up this FM broadcast station on WFM? It does not pick up any other broadcast stations. The station broadcasts on 102.9, and you're receiving it on 102.9, and you want to know why? The obvious answer is because you're tuned to its frequency, but I'm going to assume you know that already. So what part of your original question didn't I get? What kind of scanner? Does it include WFM in its tuner? -- Gerry Wheeler Naples, FL |

As I stated in the first post I pick it up on WFM Maybe your scanner is a much better radio than the others? More sensitivity. Do you get other weak FM broadcast stations elsewhere? Try tuning it in on the car's radio. Car radios usually have sensitive FM front ends. Extend the car radio whip antenna all the way out first. |

No it's not the scanner, my wording was confusing.. should have been worded that this is the only broadcast station that my scanner picks up. Something is different about this station. |
