I inherited the following scanners..
PRO-46
PRO-92 (Win92 software and a data cable)
PRO-2052 (Data cable and ScanControl Software)
A few different types of antenna and miscl stuff.

So after a LONG time away from recreational listening I find myself
equipped to be back in the hobby

I've done some research and found some information but I was wondering
if any of these scanners should get a "particular job". For example
the PRO-2052 will become my "active frequency seeker" and research
leads me to believe it is the one to use for MilAir, but I can't seem
to turn up much specific info on the other units.

Much depends on your needs.

None of these are capable of the newer "Digital Mode" systems that are
popping up all over the place. Only the PRO-2052 is capable of Trunk
Tracking. While the PRO-2052 can receive MilAir in the UHF spectrum, it can
not in the VHF spectrum. All of these could be impacted in a negative way,
once re-banding of the 800MHz spectrum occurs, which is already taking place
in some states. If none of these are a concern for your area, and
requirements, then I'd go with the PRO-2052.

Hey Bill, thanks for the reply though I think you misunderstood me a
bit. I don't have to choose between the scanners, I inherited all of
the equipment and was trying to decide what to use it for.

Oh, and the PRO-92 is also a trunking scanner though I'm thanking God
I have the software/data cable because I can't make any sense out of
the manual method of entering trunking.

The DC metro area is a real grab bag of frequencies right now with DC
itself having gone to a primarily digital system (guess I'll be
picking up a digital scanner eventually) but with a lot of
conventional simulcasting and a TON of non digital stuff (and non
800mhz) still in use.

I was thinking of using the oldest scanner (PRO-46) for monitoring the
Amateur radio bands, and the PRO-2052 for frequency hunts (since I
have the computer logging software as well) but I can't quite decide
what to do with the PRO-92.

It really does seem to be an uncertain time for the hobby, not like
the last time I dabbled back in '93 (geez I sound like a geezer don't
I grin).

My bad! You are correct, the PRO-92 does support Trunk Tracking...miss that
in my original post.

You are also correct, I thought you were trying to choose which one to buy.

As for what to use the PRO-92 for? It's good for seeking out CTCSS tone
codes! Look on the back, by the actual Cat No., see if there is an [A], or
[b] suffix after it. The [A] version corrected some minor bugs in the
original design. The [b] is pretty much the same as the [A], but they
changed the country they were manufactured in. One was Japan, one was
China, can't remember which.

The PRO-92 is a "B" version.

I'm thinking that I'll program the PRO-46 with "intersystem emergency"
stuff because it's keyboard entry and that is a royal pain in the
posterior! So I figure if all it has is nationwide freqs then maybe I
won't have to program it again anytime soon grin.

Hadn't thought about using the PRO-92 for the CTCSS stuff (heck I've
been out of it for so long I had to look up what CTCSS was!). Good
suggestion, thanks.
