writes The cables on Don's site make it easy - they do the level conversion. All you have to do is the connector conversion. I haven't seen a schematic of the jav-232, but I'd be veru surprised if it was anything more than a bidirectional level converter. The JAV-232 "at its core" is, as you suggest a biredectional level convertor using a MAX IC. Rather than have a "model specific" cable/connector (for example the AOR 8200PC) we put a standard DIN plug on the top that can be used to make up any number of cables to connect to any model requiring TTL. The JAV- 232 manual gives details of the connections needed for what radio and only basic soldering skills are needed to make up cables as and when needed. You could have a number of models that require a TTL interface and make use of just the one interface. When it comes to the AOR models originally designed for the AR8000 hence the FFC connector and cable, we also included in the JAV-323 a squelch tape recorder relay, audio output and with the AR8200 a discriminator output. With the one connection to the AR8200 for example you have RS232/TTL data (with squelch detect too), tape recorder relay and audio output together with discriminator feed. -- Cheers, JC Javiation - Scanners & receivers from all the leading manufacturers Telephone 01274 639503 International: +44 1274 639503 http://www.javiation.co.uk |
