Hi everybody,
Maby this isn't the good place to ask, but for my work and a project we're working on, I'm looking for RF receivers (say up to 60MHz) which can be remotely controlled through local network and TCP/IP. The goal being an operator to be able to tune the receivers from his workstation which can be located somewhere else in the building. If anybody knows of such products, I'd be happy to get some pointers, links, informations, etc... Thanks in advance. Eric |

Eric Take your pick ![]() Deluxe has a remote server function that would allow this type of operation. ALl you need is a computer with WinXP on it a supported radio of your choice and a little config work. http://hrd.ham-radio.ch -- Panzer |

Or would a scanner that covers the frequency and receives AM and FM be enough? But any receiver that can be controlled with software can be controlled over your LAN - just install UltraVNC http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/ on the computer the receiver is connected to, and the UltraVNC client on the computer you want to use for control and you can control it with the software you normally use for controlling that receiver locally. (You'll have to use something else - I use Winamp with the Oddcast plugin and Icecast - to remote the audio.) |

No need of too sophisticated devices for our experimentations. When I saw that most receivers (if not all) allow interconnect through a serial port only, I though about the vnc solution. However, as we plan a cluster of receivers, I'd have prefered to find receivers with an on board network port... We don't need audio since it'll follow another path in our system. It's just for controlling the receivers. In the mean time, I stumbled across the WinRadio receiver PC boards, what could be the solution. We could put several boards into a clean rack mounted computer, and WinRadio to provide the remote server software. Moreover, I've found some sourceforge projects which provides drivers and libraries (among other), this would allow the host computer to run on unix, thus much customization... Many thanks for your input, Eric |

I think this would be a nice solution if we turn our choice to "external" receivers. Though, I'm now thinking about the WinRadio PC boards solution (see my follow-up to Al). A 19" computer full of WinRadio boards could be well integrated to our system... Now I need to check if the mini-jack on the rear of WinRadio boards really is for audio output since we need independant analog output for each receiver (e.g. not from the computer's sound board) best regards, Eric |

If your shop is linux based check out gnuradio, just do a google search. I'd like to know how you are going to handle audio output to the individuals tuning the rx's. Its something I'm interested in too. Also, are you considering the ability for one person to tune multiple rx's and then feed multiple streams of audio back? If so and you've got an idea for a solution I'd really appreciate hearing that. Let me know. TIA dogdog |

One stream per receiver (or two - one on each stereo channel). thanks .. i was figuring you were going to go down that route but i wasnt sure. Care to share more of the setup details? tia dogdog |
