The fifty million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim country within a few decades."...Gadhafi It's all about demographics. Europeans are not reproducing themselves and Muslims are multiplying. In the EU, western women produce 1.4 children: Muslim women produce 3.5.. At these rates, Yemen will have more people that Russia by 2050. Young people in North America are putting off having children so they can get a BMW and a Caribbean vacation and the wife's income is crucial to maintain a high standard of consumption. Children are so expensive that many couples feel that they can't afford even one. The US rate is 2.1 and the rise in US population is largely due to immigration. Quebec encourages family formation but has had no success wih its "revenge de la creche" policy. The growing numbers of retired people supported by a dwindling number of young workers spells disaster for the social safety net. When Social Security was first enacted there were 16 workers for every retiree: today , the ratio is about 4 to 1. There is a point of fertility called the "lowest-low" (1.3) from which no human society has ever recovered. Greece(1.3), Italy(1.2), and Spain(1.1) are dying societies by this measure and the vacant infrastructures will be inhabited by Muslims. This is the projection of existing trends, of course something might happen to change it all. I remember reading a scientific paper on the problem of horse dung in London in 1880. It proved with flawless mathematics that at the current (1880) rate of growth, London would be six feet deep in horse dung by 1910. Well, something happened then but If nothing changes now, we are doomed. We will probably look back on these times as a "Golden Age" so "gather ye rosebuds while ye may " and look on the dwindling number of short-wave stations (of course I'm on topic) as both a demographic and technical change. |
