Default This Newsgroup. Isn' t it time.............

That some enterprising shortwave enthusiast starts up
a new moderated newsgroup on shortwave
radio so that all this off-topic political dross can be
banned/deleted.

I'd do it, but I just don't have the knowledge.
I'm sure some of you have.

Minge,

Minge,

Oh what a GREAT GREAT idea !!! And I'm so sorry I don't have much
competence to do it either.
Prerequisites should be, IMHO :
- no "automatic" inscription posssible (ie you have to go through a
moderator before you can post)
- and some degree of moderation possible in order to eradicate the
commercial trash and useless political humdrum.
I DO resent all the *******s who will use just ANY chance they get, be
it on a site devoted to oriental cooking or goldfish breeding, to
inflict their monomaniac **** on innocent people's heads.

Default "fifty-cents"

"fifty-cents"

Communist Chinese online commentators recruited by various Communist state
agencies are responsible for guiding Internet users toward the
authority-endorsed opinions on important issues. They are referred to as the
"Internet political workers," and are paid half a yuan (US$0.08) per message
they write. Internet users refer to these commentators-in-disguise as
"fifty-cents."

Why are you so anxious to put the work load on someone else??

Is -your- DELETE key broken??? Don't know how to use filters???

Finally, it seems like you are saying it's OK for the short wave
-broadcasters- to comment, but that it is not OK for the short wave
-listeners- to comment.

Have a nice day! :-)

Some problems with your suggestion:

1) There isn't enough on-topic discussion to make a new newsgroup viable.

I did a check of the threads that I'm seeing and it is roughly 50%
off topic - I sure could live with that loss!

2) Politics is part and parcel of the SWL experience.

To apply the label political to the intolerant, ignorant and
illiberal comments found here and spread like dung through other
radio groups is being somewhat elastic with the English language

3) Some of the most knowledgeable SWL's in this forum, and the ones that
have the most to contribute, are also some of the biggest wasters of
space/bandwidth.

Sometimes the price of having the knowledge just ain't worth it -

4) I seriously doubt anyone wants to take the time to moderate a new
newsgroup. It takes a lot of work and attention to detail.

That's the crux of the matter! It really is a pain just running the
simplest of forums. The best idea would be to run a private news
server such as that at news.grc.com but as you say someone has to
have the time, ability and keenness to do it.

In the meantime the kill file rules

Minge,

Danny,
I can moderate it, but for every on topic radio post there would have to
be a support Bush defend America post too. Ain't no point in talking about
radio's if you're dying after the democrats and French let terrorists try
to kill us.

And you'll all have to learn morse code too.

Man, what an ass!

So - Brian and company, WHY do you keep replying to this guy? I plonked him
LONG ago. Quit carrying on a chat with him, it will die. I only seen HIS
reply because you AND others are allowing it to be posted in YOUR replies.
Sheesh.
