It came out in '76, and the MSRP (at that time) was $3400.00,
$1,400.00 less than what he's asking now. It was, and is, a good
receiver, but had/has rotary switch problems. I used one (not mine,
but a buddy of mine had one he bought while in Japan, at a much, much,
much lower price than the US MSRP was) and I really liked it.

BUT, if you've got that kind of money to spend, there are a lot of
current high end communications receivers that will out-perform this
one. Anyone spending that kind of money for this type of a receiver
without seeing it, and testing it, has got to be a couple cans short
of a six-pack.

Just my views, YMMV.

If someone was collecting old luggable radios then who's to say what
the value of filling a hole in a collection is. As with a postage
stamp showing an upsidedown airplane on the front if you gotta have it
then the sky's the limit.

As a radio for listening it's probably worth $150.00 if in excellent
condition with manuals. The same as it's refrigerator sized cousin the
RF9000. Otherwise I would spring for a new E1 annd get a much wider
range of features and a better radio.

My comment -- it is an auction and to some buyers -- price is no object.
