I've been reading a few posts about Chuck Harder. Actually, he was
missing from shortwave for several years. Joe Hill, formally with World Harvest Radio, use to give him "breaks" on his billing all of the time. Hill knew that Harder brought an audience to the station(s). So he pandered to him when it came to air time costs. After Hill was forced to resign, Joe Brashier also tried to give him as much slack as possible. But when Brashier was forced to resign, the two people at WHR/LeSEA Broadcasting who took over for him, and knew nothing about shortwave broadcasting, decided that he needed to pay a wonderful new price on a wonderful new rate card. Harder said "no thanks". So he remained off of shortwave for years. WWCR approached him a few times, but all he wanted to do was trade out a couple of AM transmitters for air time. Then Katrina hit. And WWCR's main corporate station, WVOG-AM in New Orleans was destroyed. (And in need of a couple of transmitters!) So WWCR decided to bring Chuck back on the air as a trade out: transmitters for air time. Now the deal has been completed. And Harder doesn't want to fork out the cash to remain on the air. He was spoiled for too long by the freebies he received from WHR. 73 and Merry Christmas from Bill - WA8MEA http://HamRadioFun.com |
