Default Differences Between Two of the Same Radio

In article .com,
says...

Here's a question that I have often wondered about....

Let's say you have two of the same radio model... two Sony
7600GRs, two Kaito KA1102s, Eton E5s, Icoms, Kenwoods, etc. or
whatever...

How likely is it that they will both have the very same
sensitivity, selectivity, scanning sensitivity, (both stopping on the
same stations during a scan etc.) etc.??

Or will one of the two always be a bit better then the other? Both
a bit different??

Cato

Pretty likely they will be different. I've seen huge errors in factory
alignment, and performance, in about every radio I've ever compared side
by side. Between parts tolerances, and human errors during alignment, it
has to happen.

One problem that never seems to totally go away is screws that aren't
tightened up. This causes lots of odd problems over time, and sometimes
problems thought to be a failed part is actually a bad ground from
screws loosening up. I had a scanner once that would squeal at times and
I was about to send it to the factory service center, but opened it up
and found that all the screws holding one of the PC boards were loose.
If I wiggled the board, the radio would squeal once in a while.
Tightening the screws up fixed it.

Most of the time though, the differences are slight between two
examples. I've seen a few, mostly scanners though, where one radio is
seriously deaf compared to another one. Sometimes just turning one of
the adjustment trimmers or slugs a tiny bit will fix it, and that was
probably just due to being bounced around during shipping. On one of my
own radios, the factory settings were so far off it was kind of a joke.
One slug had to be turned several revolutions before the radio's
sensitivity came up to normal. A few minutes with the other slugs had it
really working great. I don't know how it could have made it out the
door that way. It's over 20 years old and is still cranking away next to
my bed.
