Due to happenstance I ended up with a 4G Creative Zen V Plus MP3
player and recorder. It also plays video and displays photos in the 1.25"X1.25" OLED display, but I am not all that interested in watching movies that small. The unit has a built microphone for use as a dictation unit. Works well enough. But the hidden beauty is the stereo line in! Default is 128KPS but it can be changed to 168KPS. I have been playing with it to get used to the odd menuing controls. And it does a very good job of encoding. Our next Mini-DXpedition, ok picnic in the woods, will use the Zen as the record device. As a player it sounds pretty darn good. The record system has no obvious problems. It has a claimed battery life of 15H and it has made it through 3 days of work letting me listen to my choices in music instead of the eternal arguments between coworkers. Circuit City has them on close out. The 2G unit is 79$ and the 4G unit is 99$. I never by raffle tickets, but in a weak moment bought a set and won 2 of these little gizmos. My wife loves hers. Since I can't listen to SW while driving I now have "unlimited" music that I like and can avoid the mind numbing banality of AM or FM radio. Terry |
