Default (OT) : Weak "HD" FM Radio Signals - The Blinking Blue Light Report

Yes "HD" FM Radio does not deliever a good strong
signal beyond the 54-60 dBu Contour an many areas
with-in it too.

Oops IBOC Crock - I am Agreeing with you. ;-{
- Unfortunately, the industry is now finding out this is
- not the case, that the HD coverage is considerably
- less, something like 60% of the analog coverage

In time when the Digital "HD" Signal goes from
1% to 4% of the Analog ERP : "HD" FM Radio
in the FM Band will have as Good of coverage
as the Analog 'Stereo' signal does now.
- - - IMHO 8% would be better.

What I Hear on the FM Band with the Kitchen
"Family" Radio in Twain Harte, CA. :

Radi-osophy HD100 Radiohttp://www.radiosophy.com/index.html
{The Kitchen "Family" Radio}

I can get great Analog FM Radio Stereo signals from
33 FM Radio Stations in the California Central Valley
and beyond; out of 41 FM Radio Stations received here.

Note - This is the Count between 88 MHz and 98 Mhz
with a possible 50 FM Radio Channels.

One of these is KQED-FM on 88.5 MHz coming all the
way from Mount San Bruno south of San Franciso with
a very good FM Stereo signal and on an occasionalBlinkingBlueLight{indicating an IBOC "HD" Signal}.http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=35501
Distance to me about 120 Miles.

The only FM "HD" Radio signal that I get a SolidBlueLightOn {HD Signal Lock} is a KOSO 93.1 MHz and
it has a HD-2 Co-Channel KOSO is listed as being
located in Patterson, CA with the Transmitter up in
the Hills west of townhttp://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=35426
Distance to me about 60 Miles.

Note - Again these statements only related to the
FM Radio Station Channels between 88 and 98 Mhz.

Again this Morning at 7:05 AM PDT I saw the
Blinking Blue Light while Listening to KQED FM :

FWIW - Did another AM/MW Radio Station
Blinking Blue Light Test this Morning at 7 AM
and Yes There Be "HD" Radio Signals Out-There . . .

18 Blinky Blue Light AM/MW Radio Stations
- - - I could NOT get a Solid Lock on any of them.

Plus now I am Hearing what David described as
"Motorboating" on many of the "HD" Stations.

47 Hear-able AM/MW Radio Stations

21 Listen-able AM/MW Radio Stations

on the Radi-Osophy HD-100 Radio.
- - - Low Cost Consumer Grade "HD" Radio.

-But- by 10 AM the Number of Listen-able
AM/MW Radio Stations was down to 'Only' 8
and the 21 Hear-able 'Only' Stations all had
Heavy Noise Levels which rendered them
Non-Listen-able. The Blinking Blue Light
Station count dropped down to 'only' 3.

"The Blinking Blue Light Report" for 27 Sept 2007

Early Morning {5 AM} Turned on the Radi-Osophy HD-100 Radio
and this is what I heard and did not hear :

KMJ 580 - Fresno, CA Good Audio and BBL ~100 Miles
KTNN 660 - Window Rock, AZ - Excellent Audio ~800 Miles
KDON 720 - Las Vegas, NV ~400 Miles
KKOH 780 - Reno, NV and BBL ~150 Miles
KGO 810 - SFBA and BBL ~120 Miles
KOA 850 - Denver, CO and BBL ~1000 Miles
KTRB 860 - SFBA and BBL ~120 Miles
KQKE 960 - SFBA and BBL ~120 Miles
KFWB 980 - Los Angeles, CA and BBL ~350 Miles
KOMO 1000 - Seattle, WA - Weak Audio with Bad IBOC Noise ~800 Miles
KNX 1070 - Los Angeles, CA and BBL ~350 Miles
KSOC 1080 - Santa Cruz, CA ~120 Miles
XEPRS 1090 - Tijuana, BN Excellent Audio ~750 Miles
KFAX 1100 - SFBA and BBL ~120 Miles
KSL 1160 - Salt Lake City and BBL ~600 Miles
KCTC 1320 - SACTO, CA Excellent Audio ~80 Miles
KJAY 1430 - SACTO, CA and BBL ~80 Miles
KVON 1440 - Napa, CA Excellent Audio and BBL ~120 Miles
KVML 1450 - {Local} Sonora, CA
1530 KFBK - SAC, CA and BBL ~80 Miles
KNZR 1560 - Bakersfield, CA and BBL ~200 Miles
XEKTT 1700 - Tijuana, BN Excellent Audio and ? BBL ? ~750 Miles

Clearly the IBOC Digital Signal ; or at least part of it ;
{I Get a Blinking Blue Light} is getting here from Great Distances :
Fresno, CA ~100 Miles
Reno, NV ~150 Miles
SF Bay Area ~120 Miles
Denver, CO ~1000 Miles
Los Angeles, CA ~350 Miles
Santa Cruz, CA ~120 Miles
Salt Lake City ~600 Miles
SACTO, CA ~80 Miles
Napa, CA ~120 Miles
Bakersfield, CA ~200 Miles
? Tijuana, BCN {Mexico} ~750 Miles

Sad Note - KOMO used to be a very nice Listen at Night
and Early Mornings and now due to IBOC Digital Noise
has Weak Audio buried in the Digital Hash.

? Note - I am getting a BBL fro XEKTT 1700 in Tijuana ?

SAD RESULTS - STILL NO IBOC SIGNAL LOCK :
I HAVE YET TO HEAR AN AM/MW "HD" RADIO BROADCAST.

Once Again I Ask Myself : What IBOC ?
