The Mexican government prints survival pamphlets for border crossers, and supplies them with food, water, and other supplies to help them get across safely. If that is not a form of authorization, then grass is purple and the sky is green... The only pamphlet is (was?) one that warns border crossers of the hazards of doing so. They know people are going to do it, so they are giving them some precautions, not instruction. Mexico does not provide water and food. Many US humanitarian organizations do that, on the US side, with water stations that are replenished often. This is to prevent people who are already there from dying... again, knowing they will come no matter what. Mexico has no national policy of encouraging migration. What Mexico has is an unsustainable rural economy based on the ejido system that forces people to migrate either to big cities of Mexico or to the US. |

One must remember that in 'Eduardo's' world each one of those illegals is a potential listener to the radio stations he 'programs' and therefore a a possible future source of revenue. There is no government policy to encourage emigration nor does the Mexican government give food and water. |

Yes, there are people on both sides of the border supporting illegal immigration including president Bush and a number of members in congress. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

Humane would be if Mexico focused on their national interests (schools, business etc) so their citizens did not feel it necessary to illegally cross a border. Perhaps though those of us in this newsgroup should set up a printing business and bid way cheap on printing their booklet and change the content so they are directed to only come to the US when on their way to Canada. Of course, the last I heard a Canadian official was complaining of an influx of Latino immigrants and he blamed the US for it - his claim was that the US crackdown (which we all know are primarily for show) on illegals is forcing them to Canada. He further went on to complain how these folks are not desired immigrants due to lower education & skills than than what would benefit their nation. Maybe instead of a fence we should just build a bigass bridge from the southern to the northern border. |
