I mentioned that I had traded for a couple of Creative 'Zen V Plus'
MP3 players that also have a build in mic and line input for recording. They are great for mini- DXpeditions, or for recording when the mains go out, but they have one serious shortcoming. The OLED display is nice and bright and while I didn't need it, the video was really stunning for such a small display. I get more then enough video at work to last me during my time off. But the OLED display is rather delicate. The Zen V Plus only glues the OLED display screen to the case. If you squeeze the case very hard, or drop it to a hard surface the OLED can crack. I have been advised that if I am very lucky the OLED to mother board connector came loose. I have the directions to open the case so my wife will get to play surgeon tonight. If you decide to buy one, ether take much more care then I did, I don't remember dropping it or squeezing it, or buy one with an extended warranty. I think Circuit City offers a service plan that covers accidents for 2 or 3 years. I will replace mine, but after using if for 6 months, I have decided that 2G is plenty large enough for my needs. Keep in mind that even with the display cracked it will still play and record it is just very difficult to navigate. I managed to get mine into the play all audio files mode so I can add MP3's to my hearts content and the dead display won't matter. It is useless for recording because you can't easily get to the record screen and you can't set the record levels. Terry |
