One of the turning points on the way to the demise of traditional broadcasting in the USA was the NAB's flat refusal to adopt Eureka 147 because legacy stations would lose their higher-power legacy facilities and AM would have equal footing with FM. Eureka did not even get to the NAB level; the band in the US is reserved for military uses. It has failed miserably in canada, too. Since then, Sirius and XM filled the void. Radio has been bleeding red ever since. No, satellite has been bleeding. Clear Channel had EBITDA of $1.8 billion last year while the satellite companies collectively lost $1.6 billion. Radio billings were up 2% last year. Everybody's bleeding 'cept for me and my monkey. No, you are just lying and making up statistics that do not exist. Billing back to the 60's is on the RAB website. Y'all are bleeding audience, if not cash. How much of that CCU figure was TV? Outdoor? Attractions? 0% attractions which they spun off several years ago. Radio is the largest part. Go to the RAB website, and see the billing figures for the last nearly 60 years. AM radio is losing audience, as few new listeners come in. FM is at approximately the same levels as 10, 15, 20 years ago. |

Where are those quotes from Radio World? I'm still waiting for those quotes Eduardo. Come on key clown get with it. OK if you can't back it up just say so. I can, when I get back to my desk. My itinerary is HOU, MIA, ORD, SJU, JFK, LA. In the meantime, I posted msg's link and fair use posting so you can print it and stuff it down your throat. |

"David Eduardo" wrote: "Telamon" wrote in message news:telamon_spamshield- Still waiting for those quotes Eduardo. If you got time to BS in other threads you can post a quote backing up your claims. msg posted: As for SiPort and CES, there are over 400 hits on Google citing articles describing the product; here is a Radio World quote from http://www.rwonline.com/pages/s.0121/t.10856.html: Radio World Email Newsletters :: The Leslie Report SiPort Unveils Single Chip IC for HD-R by Leslie Stimson, 1.24.2008 Leslie Stimson is the News Editor and Washington Bureau Chief for Radio World. SiPort's HD Radio chipset was an interesting highlight of this month's CES, though it wasn't out on the floor. What I saw in the company's suite in the Hilton was pretty interesting. The semiconductor company displayed what its engineers say is a single-chip solution for the portable market to invited attendees. In an exclusive interview, SiPort Vice President of Engineering Aiman Kabakibo told me his company's chip consumes roughly 120 to 125 mW of power. The chip, in development since 2005, can also support DAB and DAB+, RDS and the FM subcarrier-based MSN Direct signal in addition to HD Radio and Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcast. "In order for us to achieve the lowest power [consumption] and footprint we had to start with a clean piece of paper and do this from the ground up so we could optimize for power," he said. The company displayed two prototype MP3 players with integrated FM HD-R receivers using its chip. A company spokesman said SiPort expects to launch its chip with major customers this summer. http://www.rwonline.com/pages/s.0121/t.10856.html Thanks for the link. OK, now I'll explain what this is to you. It is a thing called vaporware. Why do I call it vaporware? Let's take this one step at a time. According to Leslie Stimson's article: "SiPortıs HD Radio chipset was an interesting highlight of this monthıs CES, though it wasnıt out on the floor. What I saw in the companyıs suite in the Hilton was pretty interesting." It is not out on the floor because it is not a product yet and is still under development. This is typical behavior when you are trying to convince someone of a product that's not ready. It's called high pressure sales talk. You can't do this out on a exhibition floor effectively. You should understand this tactic. Leslie Stimson's article: "The semiconductor company displayed what its engineers say is a single-chip solution for the portable market to invited attendees." What to make of this statement? Pretty vague isn't it. My best guess is they just showed IC packages that you can see old picture of on the net. I would not take this statement to mean he saw something working because it is just to easy to say so. Leslie Stimson's article: "A company spokesman said SiPort expects to launch its chip with major customers this summer." The rest is nearly meaningless fluff talk by SiPort except for this last line, which means it does not exist yet. Will it ever exist? Maybe this summer or maybe not. This company does not have its own fabrication facilities and will contract with a firm such as TSMC to make the parts. This will probably cost millions of dollars and they are most likely looking for financial backing. That's what is going on in the hotel suite. Now, Eduardo tell me again how crow tastes. -- Telamon Ventura, California |
