Default Don't Need HD Radio

I have an observation I'd like to share.

My dad who is 82 bought a Bose Wave Radio 10 years ago, & the age of 72. The
radio sounds really great and the CD player is even better. I can't say
enough good things about Bose's Wave Radio. He also has a computer and is
even online too. Not bad for an old guy right! Well at 82 my dad just bought
a "46" flat screen TV and ordered the high definition package from Direct
TV. He loves his music and is a regular user of radio too.

Here's my point. my dad is satisfied with the benefits of his current
radio. But recognized the need to upgrade
to a flat screen TV with HD. HD Flat screen TVs are selling! HD radio's are
not. Maybe most consumers are happy with their current radio selection and
see no need to upgrade. The reverse is different for HD TV... Once you'd
experience high def TV there's no going back to old technology..

For the users of this group are you happy with the sound of your current
radio's?

Would you replace your analog TV's before ditching radios?

I'd ditch TV's because there's a big improvement with HD TV..

Scooter...

- For the users of this group are you happy with the sound
- of your current radio's?

Scooter - Yes presently Except for 3 'local' Sonora, CA
Radio Stations : 1 AM and 2 FM

Note - I live beyond the Service Contours of everything
else that I can hear on a regular basis using the old
analog AM & FM Radio Technology. And for the most
part the Audio is very good.

The IBOC "HD" AM & FM Radio Signals don't make it this
far from the Transmitter sites in the California Central Valley.
So for me HD-Radio is : Hello I Can't Hear You !" experience.

- Would you replace your analog TV's before ditching radios?

Yes - BTDT ~ RHF

- I'd ditch TV's because there's a big improvement with HD TV..

That is Very True.

Scooter...

=BUT= I think that IBOC HD-Radio is a 'done-deal' cause
both the Radio Broadcasting Industry {Corporate Media}
and the FCC {Big Government} : Want It To Happen -and-
Will Make It Happen. ~ RHF

-ps- Thank for putting HD Radio in the Subject-Line.

One can make a similar argument about HD radio. If you were looking
for improved audio quality and a broader range of selections and found
them on HD radio then there is an excellent chance you would upgrade.
If not then you probbably won't find HD radio worth bothering with.
Since there is no subscription fee the cost is limited to buying a
receiver.

I've tried HD TV and really don't see what all the excitement is
about. The pictures have greater detail, but many of the wide-screen
images are slightly flattened and rapid movement can sometimes result
in weird digital artifacts. Football players sometimes look like
members of the long-lost band of Flatheads.

For the users of this group are you happy with the sound of your current
radio's?

Sure, the sound is ok, but I would definitely like to get the
additional channels on public radio.

Would you replace your analog TV's before ditching radios?

Probably after.

This subject is really rediculous. Analog tv signals will end in less
than a year so you either have to upgrade your tv OR get a digital
converter box and then watch tv programs that won't fill the screen.
For those who have cable or satellite, you will have a few years more
to go before you will also have to upgrade, but in the meantime, more
and more hdtv programs will NOT fill your old tv's screen. OF COURSE
people will upgrade to an HDTV before an HD Radio. If and when there
is an announcement that analog radio signals will cease on a certain
date, people will rush to buy an upgraded digital radio.

Your observation only amounts to your dad using common sense. IF your
dad's Bose system becomes obsolete and useless, I am sure he will also
upgrade to a digital radio.

Really. This is a no-brainer.

MY BOSE WAVE RADIO RANT -by- RHF

The AM Tuner in the Bose Wave Radio SUCKS !
I could only get the one local AM Radio Station
on it : KVML 1450 kHz} and KCBC 770 kHz in
Oakdale, CA with good Audio.

Sacramento, CA - KSTE 650 kHz and KFBK 1530 kHz
where just audible; but not listenable.

Modesto, CA - KFIV 1360 kHz and KESP 970 kHz
had very poor audio.

SF Bay Area, CA - KCBS 740 kHz and KGO 810 kHz
where just audible; but not listenable.

The Bose Wave Radio's FM Tuner was OK -but-
Once Again the AM Tuner SUCKED !

Default Don't Need HD Radio

You miss the point..My dad didn't buy HD out of necessity.. He did so
because he fell in love the picture and sound quality. If a few more people
felt the same way about HD radio then the market would work to weed out
analog radio.. HD radio would be the new standard instead of teeter toting
on dying.
