Wow, what a great idea ! LOL, still waiting on a Radio Jordan QSL, reports sent in Feb/05 and Oct/06............... Frank Your comment about waiting on the Radio Jordan QSL brought back an old memory for me. Back in the 1980's when I finally managed to pry a QSL out of them, the route I finally took was writing a cover letter to King Hussein who was an amateur radio operator. Evidentally that tactic worked because I promptly received a QSL from the station in about a month or so. Whether he was instrumental in that or not, I'd like to think so, hi hi. Koikus, thanks for the anecdote. Well, I can't write to the King since he passed away in 1999. I have to keep trying I guess........... My interesting experience was that I talked to King Hussein on the radio. At the time he was talking to another amateur in Kenya on 15 meters. I had no idea who he was at the time but I just wanted to see if I could be heard in Kenya (I was using CW, the only mode I could use at the time, and was crystal controlled). So I broke into their QSO, and both came back to me. Unfortunately, I never attempted to QSL either one of them :-( This was in the 70-72 time frame. When King Hussein passed away I sent my condolences via an on-line guestbook somewhere, can't recall, and related the story about talking to him on the radio. About 2 months later, I received a very nice personal letter from HRH Princess Ghida Talal, who was at least at that time, the Director of the International Press Office. |

HRH, King Hussein, was not only a great asset to the amateur radio hobby, he was a great friend of the United States of America. May the Hashemites always remain so. Ace, that is so cool. you should write that up for the NASWA Journal. I remember when Goldwater died, a bunch of stories were written about QSO's with him. i love reading about this stuff. and, after all your years on the radio, i bet you got a bunch more great stories.
