No more usenet news for RoadRunner users as of June 23. You have to
sign up with a pay service. For questions call Time Warner central: 203-328-0600. Press 2 to get the "Office of the President". Stay on the line to talk to the "Customer Care Advocate." According to an article in yesterday's newspaper, (Seattle Times, sourced from the Christian Science Monitor and the AP), they're protecting their customers from child pornography. Which means that they were too incompetent to run a text only server with a binaries filter. A nice person will take your message. They even say they will look into it and call back. It's very likely that customers will find that nowhere in their subscription contract is access to a Usenet server actually promised... with most ISPs it's been a "free perk" for a long time (years) now. There was a time when some ISPs provided shell accounts as well -- that's been gone for years as well... although web hosting companies often still provide it. |
