* More Americans are out of work and working harder for less while more have lost their homes and have cars and credit card bills they can't afford. * These issues are not just of the government's making but the failure to respond is a result of broken Washington politics and the failed policies of George W. Bush. * America can be a better and more compassionate country than it has been during the past eight years * This election is America's chance to keep the American promise alive. * The country owes John McCain gratitude for his war service and for times when he has broken ranks with Republican party. * However, McCain has voted with Bush 90pc of the time which leaves doubts over his judgement. * McCain doesn't know what is going on in the lives of Americans. * An economy is strong if it "honours the dignity of work". * America has an obligation to teach each other with dignity and respect. * Tax breaks to corporations that ship overseas to be stopped. * Capital gains taxes for small businesses to be eliminated. * Taxes for 95pc of all working families to be cut. * Aims to end dependence on Middle East oil within 10 years. * Tap up natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power. * Invest in fuel efficient cars. * $150bn to be invested in renewable energy sources that will lead to 5m jobs. * New teachers to be paid higher salaries. * Affordable, accessible healthcare. * Protect pensions ahead of CEO bonuses. * Will make savings in the federal budget by ending programs which no longer work. * John F. Kennedy's reference to "intellectual and moral strength". * John McCain is alone in his stubborn refusal to end "misguided" Iraq war. * Democrats will keep country safe because it is the party of Kennedy and Roosevelt. * Better care and benefits for troops when they come home. * War in Iraq will be ended responsibly and the fight in Afghanistan finished. * Military will be rebuilt for future conflicts. * New partnerships will be developed to defeat threats. * America's moral standing will be restored. * Referred to Martin Luther King saying "We cannot walk alone". |
