More concern in these quarters about who will replace him. To quote someone on NPR this morning (believe he was from some foreign relations think tank) "You remember Saddam's playboy sons.... they would look like Harvard grads compared to Kim's eldest sons." Then there's always the chance of a military takeover... but I have a feeling that the military might actually make things better, since they would be more interested in making sure their soldiers get fed. But who knows.. |

After Kim Jong Il
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200505/henry Kim Jong Il Receives Congratulatory Letters from Russian & Cuban Presidents Pyongyang, September 8 (KCNA) -- Chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission Kim Jong Il received a congratulatory letter from Russian President Dmitri Anatoliyevich Medvedev on Monday on the occasion of the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK. The letter said: Please accept my heartfelt congratulations to you on the occasion of the 60th founding anniversary of the DPRK. A new sovereign state, which had a geographically and historically close relation with our country, was founded in the land of Korea on September 9, 1948. For the past several decades since the significant day, we have gained weighty and positive experience in the mutual cooperation and implemented a lot of common plans conducive to the welfare of the peoples of the two countries. It is my belief that the traditional good-neighborly relations between our two countries will continue to grow stronger in the future, too, and thus make a distinguished contribution to ensuring peace, stability and security in the Korean Peninsula and the rest of Asia. Your Excellency Kim Jong Il, I wish you good health and greater success in your responsible state affairs and the friendly DPRK peace and prosperity. Yours Sincerely. http://www.kcna.co.jp/item/2008/200809/news09/10.htm#9 http://www.kcna.co.jp/index-e.htm "(...) the Russians are helping the Burmese government to mine uranium (...), with the North Koreans waiting in the wings to supply nuclear technology. The Burmese junta craves some sort of weapons-of-mass- destruction capability to provide it with international leverage." '(...) from Ethiopia and Somalia across the water past India, and then north up the Bay of Bengal, through the heart of Burma, to China’s Yunnan province. “This map is just an example of how CNOC [the Chinese National Oil Company] sees the world.' 'This whole development is part of the Chinese navy’s “string of pearls”' 'India has been “aghast” to see the establishment of Chinese listening stations along Burma’s border with India.' North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il is Ill ? Dying ? http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/09/10/asia/north.php * Kim Jong Il the "Dear Leader". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jong-il * Kim Il-sung the "Great Leader" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Il-sung Such an Action by the Military would require the Re-Education {Imprisonment} of around 50K~250K of the Hard-Core Kim Family Supports and Associates. * Sort of like a De-Stalinization Process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De-Stalinization Such a 'change' in North Korean might save around 250K~500K of their People from Starving each year . . . http://scifidrive.com/2008/05/15/nor...gh-starvation/ |
