Finally Passport arrived in my flood struck village. We have been cut
off for four days from the outside world due to raging flood waters. When the roads opened again my mail came in, as did the beer truck - just in time. As usual I thoroughly enjoy my Passport and find it a most useful book, although for my DXing WRTH takes preference. The thing that sticks out is this years comprehensive review of the Perseus SDR, which gets top marks. The thing that surprised me was the Perseus specs, which are equally as good as the very expensive Icom R9500. Tha't's quite awesome as up to now the SDR's on offer have not had very good specs. When I was busy buying my giant Cyclops II (7700) I had considered Perseus but it was still in it's infancy then and had many issues. It is amazing how rapidly it has matured into a really top notch radio. However, the Perseus is not cheap as you will need a good laptop to go on DXpeditions with plus an extra 1 terrabyte hard disk to store all that recordings, that is really one of the main feature from a DXer's point of view. So you are probably in for a total investment of $3,000 or thereabouts to get the full benefit out of this amazing SDR. Have fun and good DX John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 32 s, East 20 d 07 m 32 s Icom IC-7700, Icom IC-756 PRO III with MW mods ERGO software Drake SW8.
