Obama At 68% Approval As He Completes First 100 Days. Best First 100 Day
Showing Since JFK. Mr. Obama's 68 percent approval rating at the 100 day mark is better than the ratings of his two immediate predecessors, George W. Bush (whose approval at this point was 56 percent) and Bill Clinton (whose approval was 49 percent). Going back to 1953, only two presidents - John F. Kennedy (83 percent) and Dwight Eisenhower (72 percent) - had a higher approval rating at this point in their terms. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/...n4972552.shtml |

Now let's go to a different source and see what they had to say: "The president's approval is nearly identical to the job rating George W. Bush received at the same point in his first term, as 63 percent of Americans approved and 22 percent disapproved (April 18-19, 2001). One noticeable difference is that approval of Obama is much more divided along partisan lines today than Bush's ratings were eight years ago. There is a wide 68 percentage point gap between the number of Democrats (92 percent) and Republicans (24 percent) who approve of the job Obama is doing. For Bush, there was a 50-point gap in April 2001." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/firs...l-obamas-days/ Take your pick, but I sure as hell wouldn't take CBS's word for anything. Fox and ABC both agree that Obama's ratings are typical for this point in his term. |

President Obama is just average.
At least by the standard of approval ratings. Though Obama's job approval score is strong and has been since he took office, historical polling data shows Obama's popularity during his first 100 days is right in the middle of the scores other new presidents received from the public over the past 60 years. Obama's 63 percent average, according to a study released by Gallup last month, is the highest for a new president since Jimmy Carter (he clocked in at 69 percent during his first 100 days). But John F. Kennedy bested Obama by more than 10 points, with 74 percent. Dwight Eisenhower enjoyed a 71 percent rating early on. Even Richard Nixon averaged a 62 percent approval rating, just 1 point shy of Obama's. Overall, Obama's average for the first three months matched the historical average of 63 percent for presidents since Eisenhower. ... ---- http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009...-predecessors/ |

Considering the horrible mess Obama inherited from Bush/Cheney, an approval rating like this is such hard times is a sure sign that the public likes how this Administration has taken charge and gotten right to work. [ IIRC, "W" was on vacation instead of working an awful lot of his first term, and demonstrated a new high in incompetence by failing to lead during Katrina. The American people are sure glad to have competence in office again, as reflected in these almost unprecedented numbers. ]* The Great Communicator speaks, and people tune in to listen to him: Obama has this effect almost anywhere he goes. And they condemn him for being popular, like it's a bad thing. LOL. |

A good comparison would be "what was Hoover's approval rating 100 days into the Great Depression, or what was Roosevelt's rating 100 days into his first term? These would be appropriate comparisons. Comparing Obama's popularity with Bush, who inherited peace, prosperity, and the US at a high point on the world stage, is ridiculous. |
