I love the Crane radios, I've had a CC Radio since 2000. On AM DX, I'm finding that the HD hash is making a noisy mess. Here in the Ma, I was able to pull in WLW Cincinatti every night for years so clearly on my CC Radio, it was as if *were a local station. For the last two years or so, I'm just getting a hash sound, unless atmospheric conditions are perfect. On my restored tube radios, I use a Select A Tenna. I have that one also, the passive loop? *Tried that with my boatanchors, HQ-145XC, and HE-30 and it produced zilch! *Only the long wire works with them. *The Select *A Tenna works well with the CCrane, and with my old Knight StarRoamer. Barfry F. Have you noticed that hash sound more and more? Around 1977 I was staying with my Grandmother in Hallandale Florida, I picked up WBZ Boston.I was using a Lafayette Gaurdian 7000, that got in 1973. That radio is still playing like it did when it was new. I use it everyday. My hobby is restoring vintage tube radios. I adore tube radios, I have 1946 *Zenith 6D029 playing in the kitchen right now. I use the Select A Tenna as a way to null the inference from the under the counter halogen lights. I mentioned in a previous post that my gave me an all leather and wood Roberts Revival Radio. Very expensive. I planned to concoct an excuse to send it back, after I took it out the box, I fell in love with it. Usually I have no interest in anything repro, this radio picks up everything! It has a continuously back lighted dial even when its on batteries. To me it all the qualities of a vintage radio. It really stands on its own.My wife got it from Crane. She saw me eyeing it in the catalog. Its a great DX'ng radio. Barry F. Yes, the interference is huge down here in South Florida, not so much where I am, only one mile from the ocean in a small coastal town. Yes, those "revival" radios are neat! *We got one, with a CD hidden under a hinged lid, a Crosley, with the old aircraft-style tuning dial, back lamp, cloth covered grill, etc. *When playing 30's or 40's CDs, it is like a time machine, coming out of the speaker! Have not tried it yet for "real" radio listening, have too many others! * Wish that I had an old Console Radio that my Grandparents had in the 30's and 40's, and that I still remember being in the living room. *My Grandpa put it out beside the curb one day in the early 60's for the junk guy! *Did the same thing with our 1952 RCA TV, beautiful cabinet, doors covering the set, etc. *Out to the curb when he got a "new" 21" round tube GE Color TV, again in the early 60's. *Breaks my heart now.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Here you go CF. This is just the guy to help you out IMO. He has EXACTLY what you are looking for and reasonably priced, check out the radios he has for sale. :-) http://tomsradiorepair.bizland.com/ |

If I could find a lazy susan that would hold my HQ-145 Ha, ain't gonna happen. ;-) A great setup for that particular piece though is to either make or buy your own table. There is nothing to it, if I can do it (trust me) anyone can. By that I mean, just have the table part itself rotate while the pole/legs don't move. That's what I have and IMO is my main piece for my BCB DX setup. If I would have thought before I finished it - - I would have included a ballbearing collar where the table sits atop the pole but it never crossed my mind. But it rotates smoothly enough now the way it is with no grab, I can just picture it now with a ballbearing collar, sweet. |

After taking out of the box, and using it, I had to keep it. No way was I sending it back. Mine is blue and is real leather. It still has that new leather aroma. It has a very solid feel. Not everyone agrees, but I like the sound it has. It has an old tube radio sound. Yes, its just a radio..but in this case looks did matter and it performs. Its very sensitive on AM and FM. I'd rather they provided a Shortwave band instead of the the LW, but I've been goofing around with that. The back lighted dial stays lighted continuously. A really nice feature in a portable radio. Barry F. When I want to give the tube radios a break, the Roberts fills in the gap nicely. When I want to gi |
