I don't own a TV
I do have Internet and listen to radio that way but Id still like a conventional SW to listen to It has to have GOOD audio. A remote control would be nice to control tuning.. It could be "portable"..... but not POCKET size portable or the audio will suffer too much Any advice on what to look for? Hundred dollar range or little above would be good to...if that's even possible given specs above |

It can be plugged into external speakers for improved sound. http://tinyurl.com/4maqcrv It's been seen on sale for under 70 dollars. I haven't had a TV for years. The radio and the Internet are more than sufficient. When visiting people, I may bring a DVD and watch a movie. Movies I like, TV sucks. mike -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJNZ+qGAAoJEJXfKw5kUPt72OYH/j/ggnsu8OOZlFYpprFTENSq FFzGjQ+Agpip+cSflMgSdPW4OByCe9CuVhF+xCGzm6dAeQNsYv UxExB8MFlb2Iqv ncMvGZCTaueHgiNHq6e/zFv1xM4aqOsiKOtBkvilMDy0hKOk5owKLbRE4rrA+kpT NHb9SQ+H3g4ZYSrYFEFcMSUIY9WHqaDk1o0D+TOi1dUiOKEqwd fZCliyG2yz6I5w 4rVUa/LEMOV7D52VnGSmjs6q4j3unw3Vb2F+P9VKa19hItKckJOoVt/qs7zrBT9i vB/ILCn22MZYOK/pffP1/+nV7raj9zsy+75UGOE0hZ+BTEQ8h6c81WJfwWE9tQw= =XxtN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Very nice audio, particularly with headphones or external speakers. It's a large portable; but no remote capability. Its front end performance and features (including phasing-type selectable-sideband sync detector) put it in a class with far more expensive desktop receivers. I have one and like it. With all good wishes, Kevin, WB4AIO. --http://nationalvanguard.org/http://kevinalfredstrom.com/ Kevin, I am getting tempted to grab one and try it side-by-side with my R75. How well does the S-Am hold lock on weak sgnals? |

How well does the S-Am hold lock on weak sgnals? It holds very well, in my experience, right down into the noise if tuned within a few hundred Hertz of the center of the passband. If there are several AM amateurs in a group, though, they need to be with a kHz or so of each other, or the lock-in will not be instantaneous and heterodynes will be heard when one station turns it over to another. 73, Kevin, WB4AIO. -- http://nationalvanguard.org/ http://kevinalfredstrom.com/ |

BpnJ, The Eton E1 {IMHO} is better than the Grundig Satellit 800-M and as good a basic Radio as the Icom IC-R75. The AM-SYNC Function on the E1 is better in all respects then both of the other two. The E1 has more bells and whistles then the GS800-M but fewer than the R75. Plus the E1 is less of a Battery Hog than the GS800-M E1 : ~56 Hours about a Week @ 8 Hours per Day GS800-M : ~12 Hours about a 3-Days @ 4 Hours per Day NOTE : The E1 uses Four (4) "D" Cell Batteries {6 Volts} which is easily doable with a set of 4 NiMH Batteries and a 4-Station Battery Charger. Fully Charge the Batteries for 24-Hours and they will last a whole Week. -while- The GS800-M takes 6 "D" Batteries {9 Volts} so your best solution there is a 12V SLA Battery and a 9V Regulator for an 'alternative' Battery Power Source. ~ RHF in Twain Harte, CA @ 3850 Feet It's now 34* @ Noon and we received a Foot of Fresh Snow overnight. http://ca.water.usgs.gov/webcams/happyisles/ |

Just looking on amazon.com, the G6 without Buzz Aldrin says it includes longwave 150-500 Khz and SSB. The $70. Buzz Aldrin does not say that, only lists BC, SW, FM and aviation, but there is a Buzz Aldrin with a battery charger that says it does include LW and SSB. So are there two different G6 radios, or is the only difference the name on the case? I'd avoid any audio gear with a word like "buzz" in the name. Also "rattle" and "squeak". |
